Elastostrip: sealing for precast concrete elements

Elastostrip is a high-performance, flexible and easy-to-use sealing solution for precast concrete elements. Elastostrip is widely used for joining pipe sections, cable trenches, drainage channels, inspection and access chambers, shafts and caissons.

The product was developed after many years of research in collaboration with global leaders in precast concrete manufacturing.

Elastostrip sealing strips are supplied in rolls, with silicone-treated plastic protective film.

Elastostrip profiles and shapes

Product quality testing:

Elastostrip has been tested in real-life conditions according to earlier standards such as DIN 4062 for functional requirements. Tests were carried out in collaboration with manufacturers of prestressed concrete elements, resulting in full compliance with the new European Standard EN 1917 for concrete manholes and jointing between elements.

Installation instructions

Elastostrip installation step

Surface preparation:

  • All joint faces must be clean and dry; any loose material must be removed.
  • Residual moisture in the concrete must be removed using a gas burner or hot-air gun.
  • Then apply Elastostrip Primer on both sides of the joint. The primer must be allowed to dry before applying the Elastostrip band.
  • Brushes may be cleaned with alcohol.

Elastostrip sealing band

Applying the sealing strip:

  • After the primer has dried, apply the band within a maximum of 8 hours ensuring surfaces are clean and dry.
  • In low temperatures, the Elastostrip band may need to be warmed with a burner for better placement.
  • Apply the correctly sized band along the joint, removing the protective plastic film.
  • For rectangular chambers or concrete pipe joints, warm the surface of the band if needed until it becomes glossy to improve adhesion.

Installing Elastostrip band

Positioning the Elastostrip band:

  • For rectangular chambers, place the wider side of the trapezoidal section so that the inclined part of the joint is covered.
  • For concrete pipes, apply the band on the inclined portion of the socket end.

Elastostrip jointing procedure

Completing the joint:

  • Before joining the concrete elements and closing the perimeter, overlap a short section of the band and cut the free end at a 45° angle using a heated knife. Then smooth the joint using a flame.
  • For rectangular elements, cut the band at the corners at a sharp angle.
