Cylindrical galvanized steel tanks for drinking water
Standard cylindrical tanks are made of galvanized steel panels with dimensions of 2.5 m in length x 1.25 m in height and with a thickness between 2–8 mm depending on the size of the tank. The range of diameters is between 3.1 m and 31.0 m, with variable height, thus achieving a storage capacity from 9 m3 to over 5000 m3.

Bosh
- These tanks are manufactured from galvanized steel sheets in accordance with BS EN 10204 or from steel panels according to BS EN 10025, which are subsequently hot-dip galvanized in accordance with BS EN 1460:1999.
- The panels are assembled on site by overlapping their perforated edges and bolting them together with high tensile galvanized bolts.
- The tank shell is fixed to the foundation using a rolled angle profile, fixing clamps and concrete anchors. A similar ring is formed at the top of the shell or intermediate rings are installed for bracing.
- The tank is delivered with a flat roof, access ladder with safety cage, access platform, various inlet and outlet nozzles. Thermal insulation is commonly used and is achieved in two ways: internally with rigid polystyrene boards, or externally with mineral wool.
- Accessories such as valve chambers, immersion heaters, level or temperature indicators can also be supplied.
- Cylindrical galvanized tanks are compatible with drinking water storage by using sealing membranes certified for potable water.
Sealing membranes
- Sealing of cylindrical galvanized tanks can be performed using synthetic EPDM or BUTYL membranes, tailored to the internal dimensions of the metal shell. Both materials have very good service life and high resistance properties against environmental variations. Their strength and elasticity remain unchanged over time, without shrinking, stiffening or cracking.
- The membranes are mounted on the upper ring of the tank using bolts that pass through reinforced rings. As additional protection during installation, a layer of synthetic geotextile is placed on the bottom of the tank.
- Both BUTYL and EPDM membranes have obtained sanitary approval for potable water from the Regional Public Health Centre Bucharest under the Ministry of Health.
Self-supporting roofs
Roofs
- Roof structures made of beams and purlins represent a versatile and economical solution for covering water storage tanks. They are designed from modular elements and packaged so they can be quickly installed using standard tools. Roofs have been designed up to 20 m diameter and can be self-supporting depending on snow loads. This system allows the roof to be assembled at a low height, minimizing the need for working at height. For large diameters and/or high static snow loads, support columns can be used.
- The beams and purlins made of galvanized profiles, mounted on supports with removable elements fixed on the tank rim, ensure a roof slope of 2–3 degrees.
- Flashing elements are fixed to the sandwich panels and around the tank perimeter, having both drip-edge and aesthetic functions.
- Access hatches and ventilation openings etc. are easy to position and install according to the beneficiary’s requirements. Design for snow loads is performed at 1.5 – 2 – 2.5 kN/m² as standard for both insulated and non-insulated panel variants.
VersaTank
- The VersaTank variant offers the possibility to configure a water reserve in locations where cylindrical tanks are not an acceptable solution. This versatile model, made from pressed galvanized steel panels with a thickness of 3 mm, provides flexibility in installation and operation for spaces with dimensional constraints and obstacles. Almost any obstacle, such as a pole or column, can be avoided or integrated into this construction system. If the available space is a cellar or basement, or even a small outdoor area, VersaTank can be the solution for obtaining a water reserve.
- VersaTank is made from pressed panels with a thickness of 3 mm, hot-dip galvanized, with dimensions of 2.5 m in height and 1 m in length, in accordance with BS EN ISO 1461:1999. Heights of 3 m are also available. The tank shell is fixed on the foundation with galvanized angle profiles, specific clamps and concrete anchors. Stiffening elements are mounted in the upper part of the tank and brackets are installed on the inside at each vertical joint.
- The panels are joined by overlapping the perforations and using high tensile bolts. Tanks are sealed with injected polyurethane mastic combined with embedding the tank base in a 150 mm concrete screed. The access ladder, manway, inlet and outlet connections as well as other accessories are included according to the order.
